Medicare is not off the hook yet. Congress overrode a presidential veto this week to protect doctors from a 10.6 percent cut in Medicare reimbursement rates, Nashville Business Journal reports.

Now, they get a raise – up to 1.1 percent in 2009.

"This congressional debate underscores the need for lawmakers to permanently replace the flawed Medicare physician payment formula so physicians can focus on the real work at hand ­-- taking care of patients," Dr. Nancy Nielsen, president of the American Medical Association, said in a statement released Tuesday.
